A coin bearing your name, portrait en profile, and a motto ‘In Richard we trust’ – how does one come up with such a thing! In Richard Elenbaas’ case it was not that difficult. His Elenbazen coins are a comment on the art climate in the Netherlands that is getting increasingly poorer because of years of austerity. If you bought one or more coins at his graduation show at the Rietveld Academy, you literally invested in this young artist. Based on his knowledge and skills Richard made up a creative solution, which probably didn’t make him much money, unfortunately.
