Big Fat Trophy
trophy commission
presented to Ted Noten, recipient of the Françoise van den Bosch Award 2008
brooch in box, 2008 (unica)
collection Atelier Ted Noten
This bright and shiny red, fat medal of honour made from a synthetic material was designed and made by Noon Passama for the award recipient of 2008, Ted Noten. It is wrapped in a big box that bears the title in big red letters. It is a proper piece of jewellery for this unique artist who is known for his explicit opinions and his unique position. Noon Passama was the first jewellery student to be commissioned to design a trophy for the recipient of the Françoise van den Bosch Award – her Big Fat Trophy marks the start of a new tradition.
Noon Passama: “The starting point of the work was from researching into the traditions of honoring and commemorating. The Big Fat Trophy takes the form of a medal to a new appearance that enhances its meaning. The medal shape looks inflated and has a bright shiny red colour, which makes the piece even more noticeable. An award is something to be proud of – inflated ego”.
