Françoise van den Bosch
two hallmarks in original box
inventory number 004.2013
gift from Mr and Mrs P.H. Verspyck Mijnssen-van den Bosch
In the era when Françoise worked is was custom that all goldsmiths owned and used a hallmark. Besides the assay marks that indicated the silver or gold content, the hallmark was a recognizable stamp in the metal. Like a signature on a painting. Nowadays most jewellery artists that leave the academy do not own a hallmark; they do not work with silver or gold anymore. The hallmark refers to craftsmanship and this is usually not taught at academies anymore. Françoise on the contrary had, in a way, been educated as a traditional goldsmith.
