The glowing color of the patinated brass is wonderful. It gives the heavy, angular form a soft and tactile character. The two parts merge fluently. They protect and strengthen each other, and they seem to be charged with something deeper and psychological. Françoise did not have an easy life but she resisted it with courage. “I have always worked with metals,” she said in 1975. “Metals are very hard, they challenge me. Metal reflects something, it is resilient, it also opposes you and it can hurt you. Exploring all those properties fascinates me.”
