Ruudt Peters
(The Netherlands, 1950)
Winner Françoise van den Bosch Award 2000
Ruudt Peters has played a leading role in both the Dutch and the international avant-garde artistic movement since the 1970s. His work has always eschewed the well-trodden path of the traditional and his career-long quest has opted for more alchemic principles, including intuition, spiritual inclinations, sexuality and the conversion of knowledge into substance through creative strength. He says he is not interested in decorating the body, but rather in the way in which his thoughts about how he perceives the world and his philosophy on life are reflected in the pieces he makes.

“The jury is full of appreciation for the determination and tenacity with which, step by step, he gave and gives direction to the development of his artistic calling. It feels attracted by the nature and content of his work, touching upon symbols, magic, rituals and temptation.”
