Trophy commission 2008

This bright and shiny red, fat medal of honour made from a synthetic material was designed and made by Noon Passama for the award recipient of 2008, Ted Noten. It is wrapped in a big box that bears the title in big red letters. It is a proper piece of jewellery for this unique artist who is known for his explicit opinions and his unique position. Noon Passama was the first student to be commissioned to design a trophy for the recipient of the Françoise van den Bosch Award – her Big Fat Trophy marks the start of a new tradition.

Noon Passama: “The starting point of the work was from researching into the traditions of honoring and commemorating. The Big Fat Trophy takes the form of a medal to a new appearance that enhances its meaning. The medal shape looks inflated and has a bright shiny red colour, which makes the piece even more noticeable. An award is something to be proud of – inflated ego”.
