Winner Françoise van den Bosch Award 1996
Onno Boekhoudt (1944 – 2002) was a Dutch artist, jeweller, and influential educator who played a pivotal role in the development of contemporary jewellery. Trained in Schoonhoven and Pforzheim, he viewed jewellery not primarily as design but as an artistic medium through which to explore form, material, and space. His work combined traditional goldsmithing techniques with an experimental approach to materials such as copper, iron, lead, and zinc, resulting in objects that often border on sculpture. As a teacher at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and the Royal College of Art, he inspired generations of makers to develop their own visual language.
