Winner Françoise van den Bosch Award 1982

Marion Herbst was a Dutch jeweller, sculptor, and educator whose innovative work played a significant role in the development of contemporary jewellery in the Netherlands. Born in Germany and raised in the Netherlands, she studied at the Institute of Applied Arts Education in Amsterdam, where she shifted from sculpture to jewellery. From the late 1960s onward, Herbst gained recognition for her colourful and experimental jewellery, incorporating unconventional materials such as Plexiglass, aluminium, found objects, beads, and textiles. In 1974, she co-founded the Bond van Oproerige Edelsmeden (Union of Rebellious Goldsmiths), a collective that challenged traditional ideas of jewellery and craftsmanship. Alongside her artistic practice, she taught at several influential art schools and inspired generations of makers. Awarded the Françoise van den Bosch Award in 1982, Herbst is remembered for her playful, expressive visual language and her enduring influence on contemporary jewellery.

The award ceremony took place at Gemeentelijk Van Reekummuseum in Apeldoorn, on 24 April 1982.
