Manfred Bischoff
(Germany / Italy, 1947)
1947 – 2015
Winner Françoise van den Bosch Award 1992
Manfred Bisschoff became known for his playful yet highly technical gold jewellery. He studied at the Fachhochschule in Pforzheim under Reinhold Reiling and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich under Hermann Jünger. Bisschoff was among the first jewellers of his generation to embrace gold during the 1980s, a material often avoided by many of his contemporaries. His work—assemblages of childlike sculptures in gold, often accompanied by drawings and text—was both rebellious towards the conventions of goldsmithing and deeply indebted to its craftsmanship.
