Winner Françoise van den Bosch Award 2012

Munich-based jewellery artist David Bielander defies categorization. His work, playful yet sophisticated, explores the tension between the mundane and the precious. Often misleading, everyday objects become whimsical creations, while precious materials are made to look worthless. Inspired by surrealism and visual puns, he transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary, and vice versa. Bielander studied under Otto Künzli at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich from 1995 to 2001. In addition to the Françoise van den Bosch Award (2012), he has won several other awards, including the Herbert Hofman Preis (2010) and the Mari Funaki Award (2016).
