Terhi Tolvanen
(Finland / The Netherlands / France, 1968)
Terhi Tolvanen is one of Finland’s most internationally recognised contemporary jewellery artists. Born on Finland’s southern coast, she trained as a silversmith at the Lahti Design Institute and continued her studies at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam. Her jewellery combines exceptional craftsmanship with a deep connection to nature, often using unconventional materials such as wood, concrete, pearls, porcelain, textiles, turquoise, and stone. Known for faceted pearls and distinctive turquoise beads as a signature element, her work balances freedom and structure, creating wearable sculptures inspired by landscapes and natural rhythms. Her jewellery is held in major museum collections, including the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Rijksmuseum, and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs.
